About

Burmese love being with people, playing with them, and keeping them entertained. They crave close physical contact and abhor an empty lap. They will follow their humans from room to room, and sleep in bed with them, preferably under the covers, cuddled as close as possible. At play, they will turn around to see if their human is watching and being entertained by their crazy antics.

🏛️ Breed History

The Bernese Mountain Dog, affectionately known as the Berner, is a magnificent breed that hails from the picturesque canton of Bern in Switzerland. With their striking tri-color coats—rich black, warm rust, and brilliant white—these gentle giants have captured the hearts of dog lovers around the world. The breed's lineage can be traced back to the Roman mastiffs, which were brought to the region by soldiers over two thousand years ago. As the Romans settled in the Swiss Alps, they needed reliable companions for herding and guarding livestock, and thus, the ancestors of the Bernese Mountain Dog began their journey alongside the alpine herders and dairymen known as Senne. Originally bred as versatile farm dogs, Bernese Mountain Dogs were not only cherished for their loyalty and intelligence but also for their strength. These large dogs were often employed to pull carts and assist with various tasks around the farm, making them invaluable members of the farming community. Their endearing temperament and friendly nature have made them not just working partners but also beloved family pets. In 1912, the breed was officially recognized, but their charm had already made a lasting impact long before that. Today, they are celebrated not only for their beauty but also for their loving disposition, making them excellent companions for families and individuals alike. Whether you're seeking a playful friend or a devoted protector, the Bernese Mountain Dog is a breed that embodies warmth and loyalty, truly reflecting the spirit of its Swiss heritage.
