About

Savannah is the feline version of a dog. Actively seeking social interaction, they are given to pouting if left out. Remaining kitten-like through life. Profoundly loyal to immediate family members whilst questioning the presence of strangers. Making excellent companions that are loyal, intelligent and eager to be involved.

πŸ›οΈ Breed History

The Savannah cat is a captivating breed that first emerged in the late 20th century, born from an adventurous crossing of the serval, a wild African cat, and a domestic cat. This unique hybridization began in 1986 when Judee Frank created the first Savannah, a striking female aptly named Savannah. With her stunningly large ears and enchanting, spotted coat, she laid the foundation for what would become one of the most sought-after breeds in the cat world. As the breed developed, it quickly garnered attention for its impressive size and athletic build, particularly among the F1 and F2 generations, which can grow to be substantially larger than typical house cats. In fact, in 2016, an F2 male set a world record for being the tallest cat at an astonishing 48.4 centimeters! What sets the Savannah apart is not just its size but also its wild heritage. These cats are known for their playful, intelligent nature, often exhibiting dog-like behaviors, such as enjoying games of fetch and forming strong bonds with their human companions. As the breed progressed, the International Cat Association officially recognized the Savannah in 2001, and it earned championship status in 2012, solidifying its place in the feline community. While early generations tend to retain more of the exotic traits from their serval ancestors, later generations still charm with their unique appearance and lively personalities. Whether you’re drawn to their striking looks or their engaging demeanor, the Savannah cat is a delightful blend of wild elegance and domestic affection.
